A starship command drama

RIFTCOMMAND

Command a starship and a crew of five species through missions with no easy answers. AI writes each scene as you play, while the game’s own rules decide what every order costs, in a galaxy you share with every other captain.

Free captains fly short missions on daily energy: 8 more each day, and a mission takes 8. No card needed.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Take command

Choose your name, meet the officers on your bridge and read your first orders. Every mission is new: a place, a crisis and a question with no easy answer.

  2. Step 2

    Give orders

Type what you would say on the bridge, or take one of the crew’s suggestions. Your officers carry it out, say no, or tell you what it will cost.

  3. Step 3

    Live with it

Decisions are final. Factions remember, trust is won and lost, and the next mission starts where this one ended.

The Living Galaxy

One galaxy. Every captain.

Every captain plays their own missions in the same galaxy, and each mission adds to that week’s Fleet Order. The Orders, the captains’ votes and the season’s story change who holds which sector and how the Tessary Charter, the Ravkhet Oath, the Ossamurr, the Outmoot and the Vessendry stand. The Tightbeam reports what happened.

  1. Step 1

    Fly your mission

Your orders, your crew, your choice. The mission is yours alone, but you fly it in the same galaxy as everyone else.

  2. Step 2

    Push the Fleet Order

Every mission counts toward the week’s shared goal. If the goal is missed, you lose nothing.

  3. Step 3

    Change the galaxy

The week’s outcome moves the map, the factions and the next briefings. A great deed can become a Legend that other captains hear about.

Five species, one bridge

Your officers don’t think alike. A freighter is calling for help, and a warship is chasing it. Each of them has something to say about it, in a voice of their own.

  • Human

Adaptable, good with people, quick to joke when it matters most.

I can give you the fold jump or the shields, Captain. Not both. Choose the one you can accept.
    Freya StrandChief Engineer
  • Naleiru

Empaths who feel what others feel and hear what a voice tries to hide.

Their captain says they’re fine. Her voice says she buried someone today. Ask her who.
    Velith ahn-KoraShip's Doctor
  • Gruvanth

Scholars made of silicon who would rather be right than fast.

The distress call repeats every forty seconds, exactly. People in distress are not that patient.
    Kel’vreth tor-AnaxisScience Officer
  • Tsekari

Bound by honour, short-lived and unable to stand waiting.

Their guns have been warm since we dropped out of fold. I say we warm ours. Politely.
    Khar-ReshWeapons Officer
  • Oshuvel

Diplomats who never tell anyone the whole truth.

We can be their rescuers or their witnesses, Captain. The Ravkhet will remember which.
Emesha ith-RethisExecutive Officer (second in command)

The samples use your browser’s own voices. For the crew’s full voices, get the voice pack: one large download, best on Wi-Fi, kept on this device.

One order, one scene

This is an order as it reads on the bridge. You give the order; the crew carry it out and tell you what they see. What happens next is for you to decide.

  1. You ordered: Put us between them. Shields up, guns cold.

  2. The deck leans as the cruiser swings broadside. On the ship’s screen the freighter’s running lights slide behind your hull, and the Ravkhet frigate fills the space where they were.

  3. Khar-ReshWeapons

Guns cold. My hand stays next to them.

  4. Kel’vreth tor-AnaxisScience

Their targeting array has locked on twice and released twice. A rehearsal. Not yet an attack.

  5. Thax-VeilOn comms · Ravkhet frigate captain

You are standing in front of something that belongs to me, Captain. Move aside, and we both forget this happened.

  6. Velith ahn-KoraDoctor

He’s afraid of someone. Not us.

  7. Emesha’s skin has gone the grey-green of deep water. She doesn’t take her eyes off the frigate.

  8. Emesha ith-RethisXO

If we hold, he looks weak. If we move, the freighter is his. There may be a third way, but he has to believe he found it.

  9. On the plot, the frigate’s guns lift a degree. Then another.

Questions

Who writes the story?

AI does. Every scene, line of dialogue and Bridge Log in RiftCommand is AI-generated text, written for your orders as you play. Nobody checks it before you read it, so sometimes it gets something wrong.

The game’s code keeps the rules and the record: your ship’s condition, your crew’s trust, where you stand with each faction, what every order costs, when a decision becomes final and how a mission ends. The AI is told what happened and writes how it looked and what people said. It cannot change those numbers or choose an ending.

What you type is sent, with the story so far, to the AI provider that writes your scenes, so keep personal details out of your orders. The privacy notice says who handles which data.

If a line is harmful, offensive or just wrong, please report it. The AI disclosure page has the contact details. Tell us which mission it was and copy the line.

Is the galaxy shared with other players?

Yes. Your missions are your own, but the galaxy is one. Your missions help Fleet Orders, and the results change the map for everyone.

What is a season?

Twelve story weeks and a short break. There are four acts, a captains’ vote in the middle of the season and a finale. The captains’ results decide how the finale goes. The dates never change.

What is a Fleet Order?

A shared goal for the week in one or more sectors. Every mission there counts. If the target is missed, you are not punished.

What does it cost?

Nothing to start. The free plan gives you 16 energy, 8 more each day you sign in (up to 8), and a short mission takes 8 energy. For full-length missions, Commander is $11.99 a month with 4 officers on your bridge, and Admiral $17.99 a month with all 5, in USD with VAT included.

What is an order?

Every order counts. Monthly orders and order packs are spent one per order, and starting a new mission takes 2 more. A free mission is paid for in energy when it starts, so its orders are already covered.

An order the crew cannot understand costs nothing. If Fleet Command cannot prepare a mission, you are not charged for it.

What happens when my energy runs out?

You wait for the next energy: 8 energy each day you sign in, up to 8. Days you miss do not add up. An order pack lets you fly a full-length mission in the meantime.

Do I need to install anything?

No. RiftCommand plays in your browser, on a computer or a phone. You sign up with an email address or a Google account.

Can I cancel, or get a refund?

Change or cancel your plan any time from the plan page in the game. Payments are handled by Stripe. Refunds follow the refund policy.
