Cookies

The game sets cookies only to keep you signed in, or to show on our public pages that you are. They belong to our site, are never sent to anyone else, and are set only once you open the game, not on these public pages.

  • Your sign-in

    Name
    sb-<project>-auth-token
    What it does
Keeps you signed in between visits. It holds your session, which proves to our engine that requests come from you. A long session can be split into parts ending in .0, .1 and so on.
    How long
Up to 400 days, renewed while you play. Signing out removes it.
  • A sign-in in progress

    Name
    sb-<project>-auth-token-code-verifier
    What it does
Holds a one-time check while you sign in with Google, confirm your email address or reset your password, so the link only works in the browser that asked for it.
    How long
Removed as soon as that sign-in finishes.
  • A sign-in marker

    Name
    rc_bridge
    What it does
Tells our public pages that you are signed in to the game, so their menu offers “Bridge” instead of “Sign in”, with your captain name beside it. It holds only that name, proves nothing and gives no access. Both our public site and our game can read it.
    How long
30 days, renewed whenever you open the game. Signing out removes it.

<project> stands for the id of our sign-in service. We use no analytics, advertising or social media cookies, and no third party sets cookies on our pages.

Saved in your browser

The game also keeps a few small items in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.

  • A mission being prepared

    Name
    rift-command-generating-mission
    What it does
Remembers which mission Fleet Command is drafting, so the bridge picks it up again after a reload.

Until the mission is ready, or you sign out.
  • Your last mission

    Name
    rift-command-last-mission
    What it does
Remembers your last mission, so its debrief opens on it.
    How long
    Until you sign out.
  • An order on its way

    Name
    rift-command-pending-order
    What it does
Remembers the order you just gave, so after a reload the bridge waits for that same order instead of playing it twice.
    How long
Until your crew answers it, or you sign out.
  • Sound settings

    Name
    rift-command-audio
    What it does
Your volume and mute choices. Saved only when you change one.

Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.

    rift-command-reduced-motion
    What it does
Whether the game should reduce animation. Saved only when you change it.

Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Reveal speed

    Name
    rift-command-reveal-speed
    What it does
How fast your crew’s lines appear in the comms log. Saved only when you change it.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Course chart view

    Name
    rift-command-course-view
    What it does
Whether your course is drawn as a map or as a triangle. Saved only when you change it.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Open side panels

    Name
    rift-command-rails-open
    What it does
Remembers which parts of the two side panels on the play screen you opened. Saved only when you open or close one.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Closed tips

    Name
    rc_help_closed
    What it does
Remembers which short help lines you closed, so they do not come back. Saved only when you close one.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Display settings

    Name
    rift-command-display
    What it does
Your text size, high contrast and story typeface. Saved only when you change one.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Voice settings

    Name
    rift-command-voice
    What it does
Whether voice comms are on, which voices speak and who reads the Bridge Log. Saved only when you change one.
    How long
Stays on this device, also after you sign out, until you clear it.
  • Onboarding step

    Name
    rift-command-ceremony
    What it does
Where you left your first commissioning, so it picks up there.
    How long
Until the ceremony ends, or you sign out.
  • Ship wear note

    Name
    rift-command-upkeep-told
    What it does
That the debrief has already explained, once, how the ship wears between missions.
    How long
    Until you sign out.

An earlier version of the game kept rift-command-player-id. The game deletes it when it finds it. Nothing is kept in session storage.

The voice pack

Crew voices can play through your browser’s own voices, which stores nothing. If you choose to get the voice pack, your browser downloads the voice files (from roughly 90 MB to about 330 MB, depending on your device) and keeps them so it never downloads them twice.

  • Voice files

    Where
Your browser’s cache storage, as transformers-cache and kokoro-voices
    What it does
Holds the voice files, so speech is made on your device and nothing you hear is sent anywhere.
    How long
Until you remove the voice pack in Settings, or clear this site’s data in your browser.

Some browsers speak with online voices. In that case your browser sends the line it reads aloud to its maker’s voice service, under that company’s terms; RiftCommand has no part in it.

Other sites you pass through

  • Paying for a plan or a pack takes you to Stripe’s checkout, on Stripe’s own site, which sets its own cookies under Stripe’s cookie policy.
  • Signing in with Google takes you to Google’s sign-in page, under Google’s policies.

Clearing it

Signing out removes your sign-in cookie, the sign-in marker and the two mission items. To remove everything, including the sound and motion settings and the voice pack, clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings. You will then need to sign in again.
